The Club was founded in 1986 following several years of fruitless campaigning by many players in East Lothian, the most notable of whom was Willie Wood.

In 1985, Willie (the Founder President), Colin Brown (the Founder Secretary), Joe Hailey (the Founder Treasurer), and a selected group of individuals decided to make one big effort to establish the need for an indoor bowling club.

After many weeks of campaigning and gaining support for the project from the county's bowlers, this group took their business plans to the local council, banks, and construction companies to prove that it would work.

A site was suggested by the council, plans were drawn up and funding from bowlers, the Royal Bank of Scotland, Scottish and Newcastle Breweries, and Sports Bodies was agreed and the stadium was completed in November 1987.

As part of the business proposals, architect services and a contractor had been established. The Architect firm in this instance was the partnership of Hope & McGill based in Dalkeith.

One of the partners, David McGill, is a well known Edinburgh man who has had a long and distinguished career as a bowler. He was twice a winner of the Scottish Singles outdoor and represented Scotland at the World Championships and Commonwealth Games.

The builders were a West Lothian firm, Walker Contracts. Walker had built several bowling stadia prior to winning the contract for East Lothian.
